While everyone agrees it was a mistake to release the man convicted of bombing Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, the pursuit of BP (NYSE:BP) by desperate Democrats attempting to find any issue to hang their hats on, is getting tiring and despicable.
BP CEO Tony Hayward, who will be stepping down soon, has rightly refused to testify before U.S. Senators on the matter.
British and Scottish leaders have already cleared BP in the matter, and said there was no specific request by BP to have bomber Abdel Baset al-Megrahi in exchange for oil contracts.
Hayward said, "BP has nothing to add to these clear, unequivocal statements."
It has been public knowledge for years that BP and the British government supported a prisoner exchange in relationship to oil exploration contracts, but that had nothing to do directly with al-Megrahi, as far as having a specific request made for his release. It was a general deal, according to the British.

Scotland Confirms No BP (NYSE:BP), Lockerbie Connection, Democrats Ready to Apologize?
Scottish Government First Minister Alex Salmond reiterated in a letter to Democrats and John Kerry that BP (NYSE:BP) had no role in pushing for the release of Lockerbie bomber Abdel Baset al-Megrahi.
Outrageous assertions by Democrats saying BP and the British had participated in a "blood money" deal for al-Megrahi now needs to be apologized for, as the accusations in reality demand a censure from the four Democrats, including Chuck Schumer, who made the allegations.
Salmond said this, "I can say unequivocally that the Scottish Government has never, at any point, received any representations from BP in relation to Al-Megrahi. That is to say we had no submissions or lobbying of any kind from BP, either oral or written, and, to my knowledge, the subject of Al-Megrahi was never raised by any BP representative to any Scottish Government Minister."
It has long been known that BP had pushed for unrelated prisoner exchanges with Libya (which they didn't initiate) in order to secure business deals. That was a couple of years before the al-Megrahi.
Democrats, whose popularity is waning, and are going to get a spanking in the mid-term elections, have been desperate to draw attention away from their abysmal performance and the unprecedented debt incurred while they've been shortly in power.
But to accuse BP and the British government of doing "blood money" deals goes far beyond politics to being despicable behavior. Some of these Democrats should be pressured to step down in light of the lies they've publicly thrown out.

Cameron Defends BP (NYSE:BP) in Lockerbie Assertion
The attempt by Democrats to make it look like the lobbying of Libya by BP (NYSE:BP) is a new story, seems to imply how desperate they are to change the narrative so voters in the United States forget the destruction they've caused to the country since they've been in power.
BP has already stated, as has been known since 2007, that they were involved in encouraging an unrelated prisoner exchange to be done quicker between Britain and Libya in order to get important business in Libya.
Considering the United States has over 50 businesses doing deals in Libya, it makes the Democrats look hypocritical in they eyes of those viewing their antics.
As far as the release of Abdel Basset al-Megrahi, who had been released by the Scottish government after being sentenced to life for the bombing of a Pan Am flight in 1988 over Lockerbie, Scotland, BP and Britain has stated more than once they weren't involved in any way with that situation.
British Prime Minister David Cameron, said this on National Public Radio concerning the allegations by Democrats:
"... let's be clear about who released al-Megrahi; it was a government decision in the UK. It was the wrong decision. It wasn't the decision of BP. It was the decision of Scottish ministers."
How much clearer can it be said than that? Now the Democrats need to issue a public apology for falsely accusing BP, and implying British politicians are lying.
