BP (NYSE:BP) Payments Surpass $200 Million

Payments by BP (NYSE:BP) for economic losses because of the Gulf oil spill have now went beyond $200 million, as they continue to pay businesses and individuals harmed from the disaster.

So far over 114,000 claims have been filed so far, according to BP, although close to 50 percent of those aren't filled out thoroughly enough to be able to make payments against.

Over the last two and a half months, approximately 32,000 claimants have received checks, with the fishing industry leading the way.

Fisherman have received a total of $32 million so far, while shrimpers have been paid $18 million. Some of these have been paid more than once.
