The fall shrimping season is hitting the Gulf of Mexico, and fisherman are out in force for the first time since the BP (NYSE:BP) oil spill, and reports so far show an abundance of shrimp caught and a clean bunch of shrimp on top of that.
Some shrimpers said they saw no hint of oil or tar balls while they were fishing, and that's good news for everyone involved.
Waters controlled by Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida are all open for shrimping, and more news about the conditions will arrive as reports are turned in.
Tests on the shrimp in the Gulf have shown they are clean and edible, but the key will be to convince consumers of that reality.
After people start eating them and giving feedback, that should create a domino effect which should generate more demand and help the fishing industry and region get back on track.
