Mike Utsler, who was a vice president of BP (NYSE:BP) before becoming commander of the Houma incident command post, has been named to CEO of the Gulf Coast Restoration Organization.
He replaces BP chief operating officer Doug Suttles, who will resume his duties Houston, Texas, where he'll continue in his role in BP Exploration and Production.
Now that they've pretty much capped the oil well, and it looks like it is permanently and successfully plugged (although the relief well part of the operations is ongoing), someone needed to step in for the next stage of the process, which could possibly take years to complete as far as restoring damaged areas affected by remaining oil in the region.
Utsler will also be the top man for BP in the Unifided Command, as well as the cEO of the BP Gulf Coast Restoration Organization. He takes on his new role effective immediately.
