Monsanto (NYSE:MON), BASF Extend Joint Venture to Wheat Development

Monsanto (NYSE:MON) and Germany-based BASF, have now expanded their co-operation from corn, soy, cotton, and canola, into wheat.

In the past the two companies had dropped plans to develop a wheat strain because of resistance from countries, but that has changed now, and the companies are going to move ahead in that crop segment as well.

The primary focus to adding wheat to the joint venture is to focus on wheat development for the North American and Australian markets.

Expectations are an enhanced wheat variety will be ready sometime after 2020.

From there, they expect a continual line of high-yielding wheat varieties to develop through the pipeline.
