According to Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen, BP (NYSE:BP) captured the most oil it has so far in a day, collecting 25,000 from the oil well.
This is partly from the second system employed by the company, which is able to collect, on the top side, an additional 10,000 barrels of oil a day. They almost reached the capacity, capturing 9,270 barrels.
The original system, where the containment cap was put into place, also collected the most for a day, gathering 16,020 barrels on Thursday.
Combined capacity for the two ships is about 28,000 of barrels a day captured.
The oil captured on the Helix Q4000 is burned off on as they recover it, because it has no processing or storage capacity.
