EPA Outrageously Revokes Mining Permit for Spruce No. 1
The outrage of the EPA in choosing to revoke a mining permit for Arch Coal (NYSE: ACI) concerning the Spruce No. 1 coal mine in West Virginia shows again how big government in running amok, and has become totalitarian to the core, fueled even more by the Obama administration.
The Army Corps of Engineers issued the mining permit for the mine in 2007.
Sounding like a religious commune rather than a representative of the people, the EPA said this:
"The mountains being affected by Spruce No. l are considered a cultural resource by many residents.
"The mountains influence residents' daily lives and in many cases have helped define Appalachian society. Removing them may have profound cultural changes on area residents, so it is important that cultural impacts be considered as well."
Secondarily the EPA added other concerns were for the burying of streams, removing forests and downstream pollution.
There were all the other usual and unprovable nightmare scenarios asserted by the EPA, but the bottom line is somebody just doesn't like mining companies, and more than likely a bunch of transplants from the northeast now live in the region and have little concern for the people of the area or jobs, but rather want to impose their way of life on the rest of the communities, no matter what it costs them.
Sounds like the earth-worshippers won this round, but the fight will go on, and hopefully responsible people will return to Washington to turn these attacks on human beings around.
